In 1807, during one of his trips to France, the Chiavari’s Marquis Stefano Rivarola was impressed by the new style, increasingly popular among the aristocratic classes: the Empire Style.
On his return he brought with him a chair, entrusting the talented cabinetmaker Gaetano Descalzi to be inspired to make a new one. Descalzi worked by subtraction: he lightened the structure, diminished the sections and he used only local materials, resulting in a compromise between lightness and robustness that decreed the success right away.
